Albie Basson

FOUNDER OF KÖNIGSTEIN CAPITAL

Albie Basson is the founder of Königstein Capital and has been a consistent presence in the development of Namibia’s financial services industry since 1979. His career spans more than four decades and is defined by a commitment to building the institutions and frameworks that underpin Namibia’s modern investment landscape.

A Chartered Accountant by profession, Albie began his career at KPMG Namibia, where he became a partner in 1982 and later served as Managing Partner. During this period, he played an important role in establishing high standards of audit and advisory services in the country. In 1998, he transitioned to ABN Amro Namibia as Managing Director, overseeing the business through its evolution into Investment House Namibia and subsequently PSG Namibia. He later moved into executive leadership roles at Capricorn Investment Holdings and Bank Windhoek, where he was instrumental in developing corporate finance, advisory, and corporate banking capabilities.

In 2009, Albie founded Königstein Capital as an independent investment platform focused on property, infrastructure, and private equity investments in Namibian companies. This marked a deliberate shift from advisory and banking roles toward building and owning investment platforms with lasting institutional relevance.

He was one of the central drivers behind the establishment of the Namibian Oncology Centre, which opened in 2015 through Spitz Healthcare Investments, Königstein Capital’s first venture fund. The project represented a major milestone in Namibia’s healthcare landscape, bringing specialised cancer treatment to the country for the first time and materially reducing the need for patients to seek oncology care outside Namibia.

Throughout his career, Albie has served in numerous leadership and governance roles, including as President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Namibia, and as a member of the Public Accountants and Auditors Board, the Listings Committee of the Namibian Stock Exchange, the Development Bank of Namibia, and the Electricity Control Board. He has since stepped away from external board appointments and today serves as a strategic advisor to Königstein Capital, contributing long-term perspective, institutional memory, and deep insight into the Namibian market.
